We recently visited Descanso Gardens (Gardens) for their Halloween at Descanso event (hosted). This is a wonderful, non-scary autumn event that’s perfect for the whole family! It was so nice to be out strolling around in this beautiful garden during this season. You are in for a pumpkin treat here and will be seeing them everywhere! They’re next to benches, trees, and all along the path making it a pumpkin wonderland! From OCTOBER 1-31, 2020, the Gardens will celebrate, a pumpkin-filled extravaganza that invites guests to safely wind their way through socially-distanced pumpkin-themed displays in the most popular sections of Descanso Gardens.
Once of the main highlights is taking photos at the Gardens’ signature Pumpkin House, made entirely of real pumpkins. We’ve never seen anything like it before and had to take our photo opportunity here. This is a must see and deserves special attention. There is a line to enter the house for social distancing, they allow one family in the house at one time.
From there, you can follow the path to the Camellia Forest, where there are special bug sculptures! You’ll see a giant praying mantis, bee, spider web and more. Pumpkins are worked into the creative sculptures at crucial spots, making each display a wok of art. It’s very impressive and fun for the kids to see.
One of the most eye catching spots at the event is at the Oak Grove where a mandala of pumpkins, are perfectly displayed in patterns on the floor, looking like sunburst with orange, white swirls coming from the trunks of the trees. This is a fun place for kids to run around and see the pumpkins
.
Continuing along, the pathways outside the Rose Garden and Promenade is decorated with hand-carved wooden jack-o’-lantern boxes. Each one seems to have a different expression, making it fun to admire and is a delight to walk along. A trip to Descanso Garden is not complete without visiting their beautiful Rose Garden and seeing the turtles at the Mulberry Pond. See the highlights of this event in our YouTube video below…
