We recently received a copy of this sweet book titled “You Matter” by Christian Robinson (from Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing Division) and we can’t put it down! This adorable story written for ages 4-8 has colorful, relatable drawings and simple words that speak an important message.
This is a great book to start open ended discussions with your kids. It addresses different point of views and hints at the reasons why someone would feel that that they don’t matter. During those times when a child may feel lost, alone, lonely, insignificant or different, they may be too young to know how to use the right words to express those feelings. This story highlights situations where you may need to hear the words “You Matter” as an encouragement. After reading this book, kids can discuss with their parents/teachers if they ever encountered these situations and how they felt. “You Matter” is easy to understand, well written and well illustrated.
What’s amazing is that this story speaks to the readers at any age and from different angles. When I read it from a parent’s perspective, I was reminded of all the times I have unintentionally made my child feel unimportant, especially when I’m too busy working. This is one of those books that continues to speak to you even after reading it many times. It’s a wonderful book, one that would instantly become a family treasure and is a great read for this summer. You can purchase this book here.
Here’s a peek at some of the pages.
