A great summer acting camp for kids, Summer with Shakespeare with A Noise Within is back in Pasadena starting June 2023 . Here kids ages 3-18 will have an opportunity to work with professional artists and be a part of this amazing program designed to challenge young artists to be a scholars and performers of The Bard. They will engage directly with Shakespearean texts and build on basic acting skills. Adding to the fun, there will also be stage combat, improv, and set and costume design.
We recently had a nice back stage tour of A Noise Within Theatre with Alicia Green, Director of Education and Community Outreach, and Sarah Mass, Education Sales Associate, who will help run this year’s Summer with Shakespeare Camp (First photo below). We were able to get a glimpse of the behind the scene work that happens at this repertory theatre and the space the summer camp will be getting familiar with. This included the scene shop where they construct the backdrops and props, the costume room and the performance stage. We even saw a practice going on for an upcoming show.
We were impressed with how much details goes into putting together a play. It’s a team effort of so many talents and skill sets. Kids that can join this camp are so lucky, not only will they be learning about acting, they will also experience some of the background preparations of a show production giving them a valuable exposure to theatre. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn from the expert staff at this theatre. A Noise Within is a classic theatre that regularly has a full season of performances and is especially known in the community for their A Christmas Carol play that performs every December.

The camp dates this year are June 20th through July 21st, 2023. You can see the schedule here. There are different skills to learn each week with performance at the last week.
