Did you know that there are Swan Boats at Rainbow Lagoon Park in Long Beach? This is a memorable activity that the whole family can enjoy. Thanks to Wheel Fun Rentals, our family was able to try one of these adorable boats for the first time today. We surprised our kids with the news earlier this week and they cheered in excitement when we told them about our outing to ride these special boats.
Checking in was a breeze, especially if you already have a prior reservation. (As such, we highly recommend one!) It took all 5 seconds to sign the electronic form and we were ready to board our Swan boat. Each person was required to wear a provided life-vest for safety reasons. Our family of 6 was able to fit in one of their large boats with our 3 year old lap sitting in the back row. It was great to have our whole family together on the same boat for this adventure. There are also a smaller boat to choose from for smaller groups.
Since these are pedal boats, and not everyone can reach the pedal, the main work was done between my husband and I and we switched off with our two oldest kids (11 years old and 8 years old). It was a fun teamwork activity to make the boat move in the direction we wanted to go. While the older ones powered the boat, the younger kids steered the rudder to guide our swan boat through the lagoon. We loved how there was a large shade canopy over the boat so that we can be comfortable under the sun. Coupled with the gentle breeze near the ocean, I could have easily taken a nap had the kids not been as excited as they were.
While in the lagoon, the boat can take a looped path passing by fountains, a bridge, an island, a park, and some cool buildings. On occasion, we took a break from pedaling and just drifted along, sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the scenery with some snacks. It was also interesting to take a look at the wild life in the water. Although this is a man made lagoon, there were still fishes as well as sting-rays in there! (The kids claim that they saw starfishes too, but since I didn’t see it, I’m not so sure. )
We had a great time on these lovely swan boats. This is a fun family outing and can also be a great date night activity. At night the swan boats light up and so the fun can continue in the dark.
Things to Bring
You’re allowed to bring food and drinks (no alcohol) on the boat so this is a perfect floating picnic opportunity. You also need to wear your mask when checking in.
